Lucy Murrell Selected as Residential Teaching Fellow at Bennington Writing Seminars

Lucy Murrell, an MFA student in poetry, has been selected to be the fifteenth Residential Teaching Fellow at Bennington Writing Seminars.

The fellowship is the first of its kind in the country to offer full-time undergraduate teaching experience in a low-residency MFA format. Benefits include full tuition remission for one term, housing and board, and enrollment in an on-campus class. Murrell will begin their fellowship in September.

鈥淭his competitive fellowship is a unique opportunity for our MFA students and affords them intensive teaching experience under the guidance of an established faculty member,鈥 said Megan Culhane Galbraith, Director of the Bennington Writing Seminars. 鈥淲e are delighted that Lucy is this term鈥檚 teaching fellow, and I am thrilled this program continues to thrive.鈥

Murrell will be working with literature faculty member Jenny Boully in the class 鈥淔undamentals of Creative Writing.鈥 Their duties include grading, advising, assisting in the development of course materials, guest lecturing, and research, among other responsibilities, along with continuing their regular MFA coursework.

鈥淚'm thrilled to be teaching alongside and learning from Jenny Boully as the Residential Teaching Fellow this term,鈥 said Murrell. 鈥淭his opportunity to engage with Bennington's unique undergraduate community is a dream, and I am honored to be a part of this remarkable program.鈥

Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Murrell received their Bachelor of Science in Philosophy and Creative Writing from the University of Oregon. Murrell has contributed pieces to a number of literary journals and magazines including the Unbound Journal, Oregon Voice, Evocations Review, and manywor(l)ds. They are currently living and working in Chicago.

The competitive teaching fellowship is open to enrolled Bennington MFA students rising into their second, third, or fourth term. Students are mentored 1:1 with the faculty member with whom they are working, and continue to work on their MFA coursework and manuscript.
