Course Description

Summary

Mallet Percussion Ensemble explores a variety of compositions for the mallet keyboard instrument. This includes compositions for Marimba, Xylophone, Glockenspiel, Vibraphone, Balafon and Tubular Bells. Compositions are adapted from composers such as, Bach, Fernando Sor, Gordon Stout, Franz Schubert, Latin and African music, as well as popular songs for the ensemble. No prior experience for playing mallet keyboards is required, but reading music and pattern recognition is a plus. Rehearsing individually and as a group is a must. Presenting solo and ensemble works in progress for music workshop and on campus events are encouraged. This is a 4000 level course with a required audition.  

Prerequisites

Student must play an instrument and read music.
