Course Description

Summary

This course covers the breadth of university calculus: differentiation, integration, infinite series, and ordinary differential equations. It focuses on concepts and interconnections. The sequel course, Calculus B, focuses on techniques and applications, putting the concepts from Calculus A into practice. This is an advanced course; Calculus AP or IB are not sufficient preparation on their own. On the other hand, the course does treat the concepts in a logically independent way, so if the other prerequisites are met, no prior experience with calculus is required.

Prerequisites

Students must have taken Quantitative Reasoning and Modeling, or Polynomials and Geometry, or Logic, Proofs, Algebra, and Set Theory, or have permission of the instructor. Of the possible prerequisites, either Quantitative Reasoning and Modeling or Polynomials and Geometry are recommended; ideally, students will have taken both of those courses. Registration is first-come, first-served, beginning when 4000 registration opens, by email or in office hour.
