Course Description

Summary

This course will explore socio-political issues of contemporary France. Themes will include the end of World War II and the disintegration of the French colonial empire. The period also produced migration waves originating from newly independent, post-colonial territories. The presence of these migrants and their offspring has profoundly transformed French society. To this day greatly, this “new” presence continues to infuse public debates and policies. Written assignments, readings, and oral presentations will help develop students their listening and speaking, reading and writing as well as their critical skills. Conducted in French. Intermediate low. Noëlle Rouxel-Cubberly will sign for this course. Corequisite: Students must attend at least two Language Series events (Mondays, 7:00pm – 8:00pm)
