Course Description

Summary

This course will introduce musicians to the art of conducting. The basics of pattern, gesture, and communication will be addressed, along with techniques and strategies for score analysis and study. Repertoire will be determined by the abilities of each conductor, but will include choral, orchestral, wind band, and chamber works. All class members are expected to play or sing as a lab ensemble while each conductor receives instruction. This course is designed for students fluent in reading music, with knowledge of music theory, and experience in playing an instrument or singing. Corequisite: Students must participate in Music Workshop (Tuesday 6:30pm - 8:00pm)

Prerequisites

Instrumental or vocal proficiency. At least one music theory course.
