Course Description

Summary

This course will explore the potential of wearable paper prints. To start, we will learn and practice simple printing methods that allow us to make prints into “use objects” that can be worn on the body. We will begin by looking at simple examples of paper dresses, party favors, disposable protection gear, and halloween costumes, as well as historical examples ranging from Dada costumes to dunce hats used for punishment around the world. With this information, we will experiment with presentation and possibly performance. Working in multiples will allow for large scale group work to be made. Collaborative and group projects will also be a part of the course work. This course will employ mindful attention to considerations of advanced paper handling such as, folding/creasing, movement, sound, drape, cutting, tearing, strength, permanence, reinforcement, attachment/mounting, and construction of three dimensional forms. We will also be mono printing and screen printing. Depending on the situation with Covid 19, we will try to meet in person but with compromises to the normal 24/7 studio access. These include but not limited to, studio access sign up times, meeting class in two separate groups, and possibly no access at night.
