Course Description

Summary

This course will offer an advanced study in studio practices. We will explore various mixing objectives and techniques through critical listening sessions, analysis, and hands-on projects. We will focus on the fundamentals as well as advanced practices of mixing, shaping the sounds through dynamic range processors and modulation tools, and various other techniques. Students will have an opportunity to practice their mixing skills through multitracks, make their own creative remixes, and share their work in-class with their peers for feedback. This course is for students who have previous experience in recording studio practices and/or with preexisting projects. Tools that are needed: Headphones. Access to a computer and Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) Pro Tools or Reaper, etc. Students who are on campus will have access to the Jennings recording studio, Labs, and equipment room that will provide these tools.

Prerequisites

Determination will be given based on the evidence of prior experience in sound recording. Students who previously took Introduction to Sound Recording and Mixing course are strongly encouraged to register.
