PODs offer students the opportunity to make connections through multiple access points, especially in areas of performance. PODs are designed to help students recognize the tools and methodologies used in their own creative work both as performers and as choreographers. Structurally each POD is identified by a unique topic. PODs have required rehearsal times and culminate in a public showing.

The artist will create an original work with BFA students through an intensive research and rehearsal process.

During this course, students will begin to reflect, gather, articulate, and compose their extensive body of professional work in the field of dance by organizing this work into a text which will be bound. The portfolio is developed to include a thoughtful and critically developed artist statement, current CV, written narratives of their work, press & public reviews, and a list of any grants, honorariums and/or fellowships along with the encouragement of a creative approach to sharing the emergence of themselves as dance artists.

Graduate Research in Dance — DAN5305.01

This course is designed to assist graduate students with the research and development of their new work. The weekly format is determined with the students. In class, they show works-in-progress, try out ideas with their colleagues, and discuss issues involved in their creative processes. Though the class meets only once a week, students are expected to spend considerable time each week in active, ongoing creative research; their independent projects will be presented to the public, either formally or informally, by the end of the term.

Personal Arts Practice Portfolio (EXAT) — CME5009.01

In the student's final semester, students in the must upload their Personal Arts Practice Portfolio as part of the requirements for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling in Expressive Arts concentration. This portfolio will consist of documentation of the student's engagement with expressive arts over the course of their study within the program, including but not limited to expressive arts products submitted as demonstrations of learning, personal expressive arts engagement, and other works engaged as part of their development throughout their time in the program.

This course is required for all graduate students enrolled in the MFA in Public Action program. In-depth research connected to their Plan, their professional work and their teaching is required. This research can take the form of reading, writing, archival work,
interviews and creative practice. A body of research is required at the end of each term related to their studies.

Graduate Projects and Research in Music — MUS5303.01

This course is designed to assist graduate music students with the research and development of their work. The MFA candidate meets weekly with their primary advisor and select core faculty. Students are expected to spend considerable time each week in active, ongoing creative research and practice. Projects and works-in-progress will be presented in public forums, such as Music Workshop, the Music Lecture Series, and individual shows, throughout the term.

Counseling Theories and Techniques: Foundations of Expressive Arts Therapy — CME5003.01

This course explores the major theoretical orientations in counseling, including psychodynamic, humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, and integrative approaches. Students will study the principles, techniques, and application of each theory, gaining practical skills for working with diverse client populations. Emphasis is placed on developing a personal counseling framework and integrating theory with practice through role-plays and case studies.
