Course Description

Summary

Animation, Video Movement is an interdisciplinary class that includes students with a concentration in dance, animation or video. The intention is to create hybrid performance pieces in which those disciplines are closely interwoven in an attempt to find a form that is an independent art form in itself.  We will develop common language, scores, and systems in an environment where the collaborators are in conversation. This hands-on course will explore and analyze the creative choices available, and practical tools needed, when we instigate a relationship in multimedia performance. We will project onto and interact with a variety of surfaces and spaces, exploring intimate to large scale. Occasionally, we will share and reverse roles to get closer to the meaningful integration of animation/video in performance as well as to better understand the potential of true collaboration. A series of experimental hybrid performances will be designed and staged collaboratively.
