Course Description

Summary

This course is recommended for all students considering working in sculpture and interested in mild steel design/fabrication methods. It is open to anyone with a curiosity about materials and building processes. There are fundamental introductions to gas, arc, electric welding, forging, fabrication techniques like cutting and grinding steel, and general shop safety. Please note that this course may require additional materials to be purchased by the student, ex. Jacket, gloves, hat and safety glasses.

This class is a lab style course in its design. There will be up to an additional 3 plus hours per week outside of class time, needed to perform all the tasks/assignment for the duration of this course.  

We will begin the class on the first day going over safety concerns and have a discussion about class goals for the term.

 

Learning Outcomes

  • Ability to work with others in a communal/shop environment.
    Ability to walk away from this class with ability and knowledge for certification in mild steel welding.
    General steel fabrication knowledge
    Practice / and understanding applications in experiential learning.
