Course Description

Summary

How do you design clothes for a world that that does not exist? In this class we will be doing that with a series of projects. Worlds may be extraterrestrial, riffs on human history in the manner of Game of Thrones, or purely an invention of the author. We will explore methodology to find inspiration in the worlds of art, science, costume history, and our own imaginations. Students will need to render their ideas – drawing and painting or the digital equivalents are important skills to bring to this advanced design class. Note: This is not a construction class. Corequisites: Dance or Drama lab assignment

Prerequisites

Permission of the instructor. Costume history, costume rendering or at least one class in a visual discipline are highly recommended. Students should have strong creative impulses and good research skills.
