Course Description

Summary

How do animals learn movement? How does the human animal move? What can we practice to entice our instincts into motion? What is efficient movement? This class aims for conditioning the body to be fit and able to explore athletic possibilities that include jumping, skipping, hopping, trying inversions, finding smooth entry ways in and out of the floor, as well as increasing core strength and stamina for expanding the range of what we call dancing. We will practice these skills using a variety of methods and improvisational scores, blending and borrowing from the worlds of contact, sports, dance, martial arts, and our own imaginations. This class supports and encourages diversity, different points of view, approaches, and experience while supporting the students in finding their own unique movement voice and style.
