Course Description

Summary

In this course, students will learn technically demanding movement material from various contemporary dance choreographers. Specifically, we will focus on movement material that the instructor himself participated in creating and performing. We will stitch this movement material together to create an original dance piece that will be performed in the Works in Motion dance concert towards the end of the term. Through this work, students will gain an embodied understanding of contemporary physical and aesthetic concepts in dance, and develop skills and awareness of professional practices related to the rehearsal process.   This course is intended for students who want to engage with physically complex and rigorous dancing, and who have some experience in the translation of technical and aesthetic ideas into performance. Students will be selected through a live audition process. IMPORTANT: This course will include movement material that involves touch and weight sharing with partners. If you have any concerns about this aspect of the course, please reach out to the instructor prior to enrolling to discuss.

Prerequisites

Students will be selected by a live audition process that will take place on Monday, November 27, from 7pm-8pm in the Martha Hill Theater. Please sign up in advance by emailing levigonzalez@bennington.edu.
